DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team in Derby, giving you the opportunity to co-create with our experts on some of the most prestigious infrastructure programmes in the UK. Working alongside the sector’s foremost engineers, you'll have the opportunity to develop your career on technically challenging projects with the support of colleagues and on-going professional development activity. You'll be working on Civil and Structural programmes which includes heavy civils, micro-tunnelling and below ground structures and therefore would be expected to have previous experience in these disciplines.
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:
The management of a team of engineers and technicians, including mentoring less experienced engineers and developing their technical skills
Building and developing a team of engineers, assisting their progression to Chartered status
Managing and coordinating projects from feasibility to detailed design, including site supervision where required
Overseeing the development of conceptual designs
Development of project controls and monitoring of progress against programmes
Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice
Managing the coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers
Maximizing business development opportunities where possible and preparation of bids and tenders when required.

Furthermore, you'll be:
Chartered civil or structural engineer (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent)
Have significant experience in a design environment working on tunnels, heavy civil, or other complex buried structures in the UK or internationally
Have significant experience leading project teams and managing the delivery of projects, either as client's or contractor's designer, ideally both
Have experience in leading a small team, with the ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers
Have the inter-personal skills and aptitude to work collaboratively in a diverse multi-disciplinary team
Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Be a technically strong engineer, able to demonstrate a deep understanding and passion for structural engineering and a personal commitment to technical excellence
Ideally, have experience of designing and delivering no-dig schemes associated with Network Rail and Highways assets (UTX, URX) and/or experience in working with utilities providers and water authorities.
