Leeds City Council has established itself as one of the leading authorities for the regulation of land contamination. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to help us fulfil the Council’s obligations under the National Planning Policy Framework and Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Working as part of the Contaminated Land team, you will have a key role in helping the Council ensure that land being redeveloped in Leeds is suitable for the proposed use with respect to land contamination. This role will involve assessing reports which accompany planning applications and providing relevant advice to planning officers. You will also be involved in implementing Leeds City Council’s Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy. This work will include writing Phase I Desk Studies, carrying out limited soil sampling work and writing up Phase II Site Investigation reports.
You will possess a degree in an appropriate discipline (such as land contamination, environmental/earth science, chemistry) and have relevant experience working with land contamination/contaminated land issues in the public and/or private sector. You must have an excellent understanding of the planning and Part 2A regimes. You will have well-developed IT skills.
We would also welcome applicants who may wish to consider a secondment from their current organisation/consultancy.
For an informal discussion, please call Stella Keenan on 0113 378 7608 or Julia Reynolds on 0113 378 7609.
We promote diversity and want a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds.
