Huntsman have a new opportunity for an experienced Environmental Specialist within or Corporate Functions team to work towards a goal of achieving compliance, continuous performance improvement and sharing best practices within the company. You will work as a member of the A&EAME EHS Centre of Excellence team, ideally based in Wynyard.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proven Environmental Specialist, committed to driving improvements and building relationships with site based teams. Reporting to the Environmental and Sustainability Manager, you will provide technical and policy advice on a wide range of environmental issues resulting from legislative actions or past operating practices. This position is responsible for providing consultancy support to manufacturing sites located in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Additionally, as the Environmental Specialist, you will:
Provide technical and policy advice to the manufacturing sites on a wide range of environmental issues. This includes the synthesis and assimilation of current environmental legislation and advice on general environmental issues.
Formally audit the environmental performance of operating sites. This is regarded by Huntsman as a key environmental activity in determining its exposure to environmental liability and areas for environmental improvement.
Provide advice to operating and closed manufacturing sites on the management, monitoring and remediation of contaminated land.
Monitor legislative activity and communicate potential impact to Huntsman management and affected manufacturing sites.
Collaborate with colleagues and manager located in the United States..
Observe, assess and determine the environmental impact of ecological changes in the environs of all Huntsman operating sites.
Work as a company specialist on Land Protection Issues requiring a detailed understanding of the potential sources of contamination, pollutant pathways, monitoring technologies and remediation options.
This position requires an honours degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
Experience in consultancy and working at chemical manufacturing sites is desired, with relevant experience of working in a similar role.
Ability to develop a specialised knowledge of the terrestrial and benthic flora and fauna communities present at all Huntsman sites.
Understanding of sediment chemistry, sediment transport processes and a good working knowledge of ecological software packages to interpret the environmental survey data is essential.
Being a trained environmental auditor is essential for this role, possessing a good understanding on a wide range of environmental issues in order to effectively audit the environmental compliance of sites and give technical and policy advice to sites on environmental matters.
A current understanding and the ability to maintain an up to date knowledge base in environmental issues and the use of Environmental Management Systems (e.g. ISO 14001).
