Environment Advisor (Energy & Carbon Management)

The Met is there to fight crime and protect the people of London. But we're also committed to reducing our impact on the planet. Managing energy use, delivering energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction is a big part of this, which is why we need an Environment Adviser with technical and strategic energy and carbon management expertise to give us guidance. You'll be instrumental in delivering our energy and carbon management strategy and boosting sustainability – helping to make the UK's largest police service more environmentally-friendly.

As part of our Environment & Sustainability team, you'll help us develop and implement our strategies and plans. This involves managing energy efficiency and carbon reduction programmes, and monitoring their performance. You'll also be in charge of reporting on energy and carbon and act as our resident expert on these and other matters. That means you'll be giving advice to contacts across the Met while working with key external stakeholders such as the Greater London Authority. And, as you'll be in charge of the budget for energy/carbon-related activities, there'll be considerable scope for your expertise to make a positive impact.

Right now, it's a particularly exciting time to join us. As the Met transforms to become more efficient, we're reducing our estate and introducing smarter ways of working. You'll make sure the principles of sustainability inform our evolution, while working Met-wide to apply best practice to everything we do.

With solid experience in this sector, you'll have in-depth knowledge of energy and carbon management. This should include legislation and statutory requirements, and come with a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. Along with sound expertise, you'll bring an enthusiastic and highly organised approach. It's important that you can manage programmes, meet deadlines and manage data effectively. Analytical, good with people and great in a team, you'll be adept at writing reports and keen to take advantage of the chance to train and build your skills.
