An excellent in-house Energy Management opportunity has arisen for an Energy Manager to oversee an ambitious capital investment programme and to work with stakeholders to maximise energy efficiency savings and carbon reduction across the 400 unit estate. You’ll be tasked with working strategically to reduce a multi-million energy spend and managing a budget of £1.2 million to do so.
We’re looking for someone who ideally has a proven track record integrating energy management into maintenance, investment and procurement processes, along with expertise in data management.
You will be responsible for managing, coordinating and advising the organisation and all its departments on energy efficiency and energy procurement, ensuring that as far as possible sustainability issues are integrated into the procurement, management and maintenance process related to energy.
Other responsibilities will include:
Working with external partners to drive efficiencies and improvements in the organisations energy output.
Improving compliance levels across the organisation, ensuring that best practice is embedded in service planning and adhered to.
To take responsibility for identifying and procurement of energy related services; ensure effective and efficient commissioning of services.
To hold the energy budget on behalf of customers and ensure it is deployed to meet energy compliance.
To lead and direct surveyors in order to provide additional reviews of portfolio sites.
To manage, implement and develop the corporate energy management policy and associated corporate annual energy and water management action plan which contain actions and projects which deliver and underpins the aforementioned corporate energy policy.
To review energy, carbon and water management practices (both domestic and non-domestic) on an organisational wide basis and produce reports containing recommendations on how to improve performance reducing utility/carbon consumption and consequential costs.
To manage, maintain and develop dedicated energy, carbon & water management (monitoring & targeting) database which facilitates monitoring and targeting ensuring the identification of unwanted consumption, leakage, control system failure and plant system failure. It is also utilised for utility invoice validation for the organisations utility supplies.
To oversee the implementation of the statutory requirement of Display Energy Certificates for all of the qualifying buildings within the organisation.
To oversee the implementation of energy & water surveys / audits across the estate reporting accordingly, advising building managers on the potential energy saving recommendations. Carrying out investigations into increases in energy and water consumption, compiling, writing and issuing reports where necessary and negotiating rebates where required.
To prepare letters and written reports with regard to energy, carbon and water management performance issues and other related matters such as renewables and low and zero carbon technologies etc for submission to various stakeholders. Also to actively identify and draw down external grant funding from all available sources.
Ensure statutory compliance with the Carbon Reduction Commitment /Energy Efficiency Scheme ensuring adherence to key requirements and consequential deadlines.
To ensure plant control strategies are operating accordingly and maintained sufficiently utilising the Building Energy Management System (BEMS), liaising with the appointed authority’s heating contractors, ensuring levels of service, comfort and safety in an energy efficient manner. Any identified problems to be catalogued and submitted to Building Services Maintenance advising for works to be carried out in order to return the system back to energy efficient levels. Opportunities to expand the use of the authorities’ web based BEMS controls systems and strategic functions of energy metering to be investigated and brought forward as an energy saving business case.
Utilising the monitoring and targeting software system carry out data analysis and reporting of energy consumption targeting both whole building portfolio and individual sites. Identifying excessive or above normal parameters to be reported to relevant site for reactive action towards returning to expected or improved levels of usage.
Development and implementation of an energy, carbon & water awareness campaign, to encourage the adoption of good housekeeping practices by building managers and users and to seek to influence all departments to be energy and water efficient.
It’s essential that applicants are educated to degree level in environmental science, energy management, engineering building services or equivalent and have proven track record in achieving significant energy savings and carbon emissions reductions.
