A vacancy has arisen for the position of an Environmental Adviser at JSSU(Cyprus). This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to embark on a new journey in their chosen career.

The Environmental Adviser will support the Unit SHEP Adviser in ensuring the Environmental Management Systems and relevant certifications are maintained. They will be part of the Health and Safety Team and will focus on environmental improvements for the entire Estate in an effort to help reduce the Unit’s carbon footprint.
Job description
As Environmental Adviser you will cover all the unit areas, therefore this role is varied, including developing strategies to roll out across the unit, unit data analysis and reporting. The successful applicant will also work on specific projects.

The successful applicant will be responsible for;
• Co-ordinating all environmental matters across the Unit, including:
o Ensuring all UK environmental regulations and SBA Ordinances are complied with
o Liaising on environmental matters with OGD, NGO’s (Birdlife Cyprus, Forestry Dept), RoC Ministries (Mines and Quarries), SBA Administration and DIO SEE.
o Managing legislative issues for the Station including poaching, Non Military Development, illegal mining and bird trapping.
o Conducting field surveys to establish a baseline for levels of pollution or contamination on JSSU(Cyp) sites.
o Collecting and reporting on contamination data including fly tipping.
o Interpreting data and writing detailed reports in particular with regards to SLS hydrology and ecology.
o Keeping current with the most recent changes in environmental law and Ordinances.
o Creating waste management plans
o Ensuring that biodiversity recommendations are met on site and protected species remain undisturbed
• The environmental management of a number of designated sites

• Carry out a rolling programme of systematic and planned environment audits of the Unit and Station including Lodgers. Produce written reports and recommendations within 14 days to ensure prompt and effective corrective action may be taken by management. Where necessary serious failings or unresolved outstanding action is to be brought to the attention of the Station Commander/CO JSSU(Cyp). Provide specialist advice on the completion of relevant Appropriate Assessments for all projects.
Full UK Driving Licence.

Institute of Environmental Assessment Practitioner (PIEMA).

Copies of the licenses will be required at interview.
Degree in Environmental Management.

Integrated Management System Internal Auditor Qualification.

Evidence of qualifications will be required at interview.

This post offers full relocation allowances subject to availability. Cost of Living Overseas Allowances is payable based on personal circumstances and marital status.
