The Council adopted its first Sustainability Plan in September 2020 and we are now recruiting the team to help deliver this. The Sustainability Manager will lead on the broad range of work focused on reducing CO2 emissions from the council’s estate, supporting residents, businesses, and schools to be more environmentally friendly and, working with departments across the council, help embed sustainability into everything the council does. This is a complex and high-profile area of work, so we are looking for an experienced team manager with a background in developing and delivering sustainability initiatives, projects, and strategy. This role will be responsible for overseeing a number of the council’s flagship sustainability projects, including the Central Bedfordshire Tree Planting grant as well as also being responsible for line managing the Sustainability Team.
This role requires excellent communication skills and experience of working closely with councillors and other key stakeholders and presenting to senior management. The successful candidate will have considerable practical experience of delivering a range of projects, both in terms of contract management, procurement and an understanding of how construction projects work, but also in ensuring the necessary regulatory processes have been followed.
